Rosenberg, auction 25.11.1907, lot 960 Info: In 1558, the Archbishop of Salzburg, Michael von Kuenburg, appointed Christoph Schlattl as Bishop of Chiemsee. Schattl lacked the theological education and had a background in secular and ecclesiastical law from Ingolstadt. He was the only bishop of Chiemsee to strike coins and his purpose and legal rights to strike this impressive coin remain unclear.
